Travel: 5 Tips for traveling solo

$

I have the feeling that its time to write about this one again, because the last time I got pretty emotional thinking about it. It all started for me last year in spring, when I was heartbroken and felt deeply empty, stupid and exhausted. The trip came not naturally for me, because I hated to travel ever since I knew. As a child, everyone would get excited about the summer holidays and spending time with their families, but not me. I just loved to visit my dad together with my sister and go hiking in the woods, watching TV until very late or use his computer to make art in PAINT 95 - what a childhood, right? Taking a plane to get to some beach full of tourists has never been my thing. And that was all I connected with "traveling".
So I had to prove myself wrong and especially to get out of my comfort zone. Thats why I booked some random fights, to lisbon first and then to the azores, from where I took ships to explore the islands. It was a three-week thing and completely different than I expected. I wanted it to be some act of self-fulfillment, eat-pray-love-ish or at least very meditativ. But it wasn't. It was challenging, every day - I am not the most social person, but I had to become one in order to find my way. Asking People, learning from them to explore the area, doing this together. For some of you this must sound so normal, but for me it was new and exciting. Traveling by oneself has some magic about it. The Independence that I barely feel normally. But since this should be more informative, here are some tipps for traveling by yourself (as a girl).

1. Be openminded
I literally went diving for the first time in my life by doing so. Meeting new people with an open and honest heart made me experience the best things ever, no matter where I went. In Antalya, People have a different helping culture. Once you are stuck or not sure where to go, they not only guided me but gave me tips, food, their phone number and the brightest smiles. The same is for Madrid, Lisbon, the Azores, Athens and Amsterdam. I never regret when I was openminded and warm.

2. Trust your guts
Its sometimes hard to travel solo and at the same time knowing whom to trust. The most important thing is to trust yourself 100% - you cannot expect that everyone is just a good person, even if you did not experience anything bad during your travels yet. Try to avoid risky situations like being too drunk with strangers, sleeping at someones space when you just met the person or going to places without telling anyone with whom you are going to stay. This worked for me and so I avoided to go home with men who clearly did not only wanted to show me some "very secret waterfall" that no one but them knew.

3. forget the awkwardness of being alone
You know that feeling when you eat out alone? And I am not talking about getting some food in a restaurant and munch it in your hostel. I am talking about really eating out solo. There is always a waiter asking if you're waiting for someone. As soon as I shook my head and said "I am here by myself" I would get that look. But it really doesn't matter to anyone, you will not be the firs person ever they served that ate by themselves. Take a good Book with you, look through the pictures you´ve taken or just watch and listen to your surroundings. Its not that bad, if you put off the prejudices.

4. don´t force it
You don't have to stay in a hostel, if you don't like it. In my opinion, Airbnb is a good alternative to feel like home while traveling. I am not really the type of person who likes to share a bedroom, (besides of friends or my boyfriend) - I prefer to meet locals on the streets than other travelers in over crowded hostels. The best way to find cool locals is in real life, if you are shy, try tinder haha. Otherwise, there is no classic way of meeting someone, it always happens if you expect it the least.

5. Don't plan too much
You don't have something like a bucket list, that you have to end, you should act more the way you feel. I usually had one goal per day, which were set in kilometers to hike or one thing I wanted to see. Everything around that goal was flexible, I was able to go left, if I should have gone right and keep on hiking the way I felt it should be. I easily get distracted by everything, I fall in love so quick with the nature that I sometimes forgot why I was there in the first place. But I always loved what I did, the flexibly I usually don't have inspired me. In other words: do what you feel like doing, despite the way you "should" go.

Currently, life seems somehow surreal. The happenings in the world seem just as aggressive as extraordinary. I somehow cannot believe we live in the year 2016 right now - reading about political  conspiracies and illegal trades. I can slightly remember being a child in the 90s and we were all celebrating the EU as a step forward for our society. I also remember being from Ukraine and that the country would probably never be a part of it, due the weak economy - while now, Britain escapes the EU as if its something bad. I also remember turkey being considered as a part of the EU, only last year. Now, after all what happened, I cannot put it my disbelief into words. I try to see the point in this, all the violence and the "leaders" elected by the world like Trump, Erdogan or Putin but there is none. I just wanted to make sure, that an outfit post doesn't mean that I am not thinking about anything else but my clothes and fun and ice-cream. To be more precise, life isn't really about off shoulder blouse styling, without being sarcastic. For me, Blogging means a nice distraction from all that is going wrong and I hope no one minds me taking this time off. I hope you like this post.

Interior: Minimalistic Living Room with Home24 and a lot of Luck

After only three months, I made it! We made it! Marie and Storm helped me to take off the wallpaper, Ana and Dennis helped me painting and one strong man managed this 130 Kg Marble board to the fourth floor. I am not done yet, I will definitely try to add some individual memories in my living room. For now, it looks pretty much like a pinterest board (don't judge me, thats what my classmates already do.) I like the minimalistic look and especially the fact, that we barely own unnecessary stuff. We were extremely lucky with everything you can find in our flat, I got a lot via want ads, such as the amazing huge marble board for 10€ (I know.) - which is so huge that it fulfills my view. My favorite spot is the sofa, anyway - I am currently writing my final thesis. Despite the lack of netflix (or internet) I will link some details below in the post and tell you where I got what!

that monochrome thing in the botanical garden, a location that couldn't fit better (yes, I know that many people hang around cacti). I am sorry for my long absence, to show that I did not forget my Blog during the past two weeks - you know, I was busy writing (and am still I am, to be honest) my final thesis. I can see the finish line, its clearly on wednesday - because there is not other choice. My official last day as a student. will be the last one in Germany (at least for a short while) I still cannot believe it, you might be able to spot my unclear skin, caused by the scary feeling of growing up. This is not a joke. I will definitely rest from next week on, with Juule, my partner in crime in beautiful Rome. I cannot wait to be honest, if you have some tips, feel free to tell me about it!
About the Outfit: The white marble cracking Jacket (from Juule) by Muuba is a bit too hot for the summer weather, but I couldn't resist paring them with my marble sole- ZIGNSneakers. Then, the Suede Culottes and the Funktionsschnitt Shirt (sustainable and fair).

- also ganz klar: Karriereleiter Stufe -10.

Travel: Top 6 Modern Architecture of Rome

We left Rome a few hours ago, couldn't be happier to be back in Berlin now. Still, there is this craving to jump in the next airplane, right now, without luggage. When we were at the airport to catch our flight back home, we looked at the destinations, flirting in light yellow lettering, and I asked Juule "for which destination would you exchange your ticket back home, if holidays weren't a question of time?" - Beijing, Peking, just as far away as possible. But here we are, starting to work tomorrow again and looking through the Rome photos. We do not only share a Google Drive, but a great passion. But first, lets get this list done. I have a bunch of buildings to show you, contemporary Architecture and modern Art, as usual. I hope you like this personal list.

1.) Jubilee Church by Richard Meier

Or just "La Chiesa del Dio Padre Misericordioso" if you speak italian. I don't. To be honest with you, the real building is not in the best condition. Secluded from the city center, it was quite a journey to get there. The building itself shows off as a complex of a cube, a white paneled wall and four circles. The Light and Shadow game of this contemporary piece is amazing. As its typical for Richard Meier, he used white panels only. The characteristic minimal grid pattern and the symbolism behind his creation was worth the Travel. You can take the Subway Line C from Lodi to Parco di Centocelle and walk about ten more minutes to get there.

Piazza Largo Terzo Millennio, 8, 00155 Roma, Italien

2.) MAXXI Museo nazionale delle arti del XXI secolo, by Zeha Hadid

Actual favorite thing in Rome: The MAXXI Museum. Not only the well curated exhibitions, but the interior made the whole journey - the deep black stairs, the red accents and the surreal light is worth a few hours of your life. The building itself is made of four layers. The loose letter "L" was Hadids sketch as the building was a vision. Several strokes later, she divided them into the floors, just as a LEGO set it clicked together. The concrete building doesn't look like that from the outside. You will be surprised which details it contains. Definitely a must!

Via Guido Reni, 4, 00196 Roma, Italien

3.) Ara Pacis Augustae by Richard Meier
This is a Museum, too. I haven't been inside, so you must be happy with my description from the external building. As Juule said, this seems like a protest. Based in the historical center of Rome, this shiny white building stands out. But looking at it closely, you will find the elements of classic ancient romanic architecture. The symmetry, the proportions and the materials can be found in the ancient altar which the building surrounds and protects. Plus: there is a nice place to sit outside, close to a fountain.

Lungotevere in Augusta, 00186 Roma, Italien

4.) MACRO - Museo dÁrte Contemporanea di Roma by Odile Deco

Since we are honest to each other, the interior is much more impressive. The facades of the MACRO is a nice try to combine the old ancient building with glass facades. But the inside matters, right? The monochrome building wins over with the high ceilings, the randomly layered black stairs and the wide spaces for the exhibitions. Nice one, really.

Via Nizza, 138, 00198 Roma, Italien

5.) British Embassy by Basil Spence

The original building was blown up by political terrorists in 1945 - The site and the surrounding architecture played a key role in the design of the building. Spence felt very strongly that the chancery should be respectful of the surrounding architecture. The site, next to Michelangelo’s Porta Pia within the Aurelian Wall, was scheduled as private park area. Spence’s decision to raise the building on pilotti (pillars) was taken so that it did not obscure the gardens.

Via Venti Settembre, 80/a, 00187 Roma, Italien

6.) PalaTiziano - Palazzetto Dello Sport by Annibale Vitellozzi

This one looks not that fresh anymore - a sport stadium, dedicated to the olympic games in 1960, was originally bright white and reminds me of an UFO. The sixties building is pretty close to the MAXXI, if you can, connect it. The Palazzetto is not really worth a visit itself, since its closed due renovations.

Piazza Apollodoro, 10, 00196 Roma, Italien

Outfit: Palazzo Pants

Back from Bella Roma and about to force my boyfriend to take outfit pictures. Since literally no one but a plastic bag said "Ciao Bella" and meant it, I am taking the diva vibes to Berlin now. Those Palazzo Pants are the closest I can get to feel holiday-ish, if you know what I mean. Being back always brings melancholy to me. The sun, the heat, wandering around for hours and the feeling of understanding less than 10% of what everybody wants to tell me (no joke) this is romantic to me. Here in Berlin, I feel more and more useless, like I accomplished a mission (studying) and am done now and should move on. Thats maybe the reason I am currently looking for internships abroad (as far away as possible) - lets see what happens next (:

Travel: 48 Hours in Madrid - must do´s for free

"When in Madrid" - this was the first thing I googled, when I decided to see the Spanish capital city. What I actually meant was "When in Madrid and being broke" - which describes my state of mind pretty good. After visiting Barcelona before, I expected the very same thing, just somewhere else (I know, makes no sense.) Madrid is best described as a Spanish Munich - cleaner, brighter, and more historical than Barcelona, and also: slightly more expensive. Although I missed the "hip" Vibes, I think that Madrid has its very own charm and there are some things, I would not miss out. I made a little 48-hours in Madrid Giude for you, just in case you want to pass by. AND: Its only stuff for free. So, here we go, spend 48 hours in Madrid and spend a minimum of money while enjoying the city to the fullest. If you have any Additions, please feel free to comment!

1.) the view from the Círculo de Bellas Artes

Its a bad habit to lie from the very beginning. Because this is not always for free, only if nobody is watching. Like in my case, I just sneaked in with a group of Tourists. So technically, its for free. Otherwise, you pay like 3€. The Building itself is not too exciting, as I a was studying at an Art school myself, I was very surprised how clean it was. You take the elevator up and end up on a rooftop with a bar and a restaurant. The view is beyond amazing.

Calle de Alcalá, 42, 28014 Madrid

2.) strolling down the Gran Via

Favorite street so far! As I love to watch people in their natural habitat, I immediately fell in love with that crowded place. Close by the Círculo de Bellas Artes, I especially liked the diversity of locals, tourists and Artists on the streets.

3.) Palacio de Cibeles

This Building is a piece of Art itself - located in the city center, you get access after going through a security check and see the Palacio (which is also full of different exhibitions) And its for free. You can spend hours inside, the four floors offer diverse opportunities to spend a good time.

Plaza Cibeles, 1, 28014 Madrid

4.) La Latina Street markets

This is something, you can easily do on weekends. La Latina is a bohemian Area in Madrid where you can find all kinds of goods, from food to second hand clothing or souvenirs. Strolling around there is just very relaxed. Sit down and have a cup of coffee, you

5.) Modern Art at the Reina Sofia

Calle de Santa Isabel, 52, 28012 Madrid

6.) Mercado de San Miguel

If you're hungry and don't know what to eat, I recommend the Mercado de San Miguel. Close to the Palacio Reial,  you might get hungry after doing some sight seeing - (or at least sight-walking) - and the market offers you a wide range of Tapas and Sweets. My Tip: DONT do those 1€ Tapas. There is a reason why they cost only 1€. Otherwise: A Madrid Must!

Plaza de San Miguel, s/n, 28005 Madrid

7.) Palacio de Cristal

Not only a glass palace, but also a space to exhibit contemporary art. This little treasure is right in the Parque de El Retiro and definitely worth a visit. The little sea infront of the Palacio is full of little turtles and you sure will find a space to relax, the trees provide you shadow.

Paseo República de Cuba, 4, 28009 Madrid

8.) The Atocha Station

One of my personal favorites - the Train Station is way more than just something to stop by. It reminds me of a botanical garden, and honestly, I´ve never seen so many turtles in my life. They just walk around and chill on the rocks.

Plaza Emperador Carlos V, 28045 Madrid

9.) Museo del Prado

I saw the El Bosco exhibition by accident - If I say by accident, I mean that someone took me there, and I am very happy we have done this. Being younger than 26, I got in for free. Which is amazing, I think. The Museum is a modern building and offers regular Exhibitions featuring well curated collections. The El Bosco Exhibition was so crowded, we had to stand in line to see each picture. I have never seen so many people at a Museum before.

Paseo del Prado, s/n, 28014 Madrid

Travel: Casa Decor with Ford Vignale

MerkenMerken Casa Decor in Madrid was one of my major inspirational experiences so far. I have, to be honest, never seen something like this. Of course, you know all those very chic interior inspirations from pinterest or magazines- but do they really exist somewhere? Yes, they do. But normally I don't have access to the homes of rich people. In Casa Decor, I indeed had the access. And the Guides. Being led through the rooms (I don't really know but I guess it was about 40 Rooms) together with the media crew from all over Europe, we had an experience I can't even put in words. To see how design comes together to build a never ending symbiosis is amazing - Details over details and stitch over stitch the Casa Decor combines it all: the process, the space and the vision. My Favorite Rooms were by Beatriz Silveira - a light and airy space with special pieces that
It took me some time, but the connection between Ford Vignale and the Casa Decor was pretty clear then: If you want to translate designs from the past in a contemporary space, you need to be creative. We don't want to see another vintage knock off, but a unique combination of elements, that correspond. This will be the first of my Madrid Posts, after the Workshop, I took the chance to spent some more days in Madrid by myself.

I sincerely want to thank Ford for the invitation - I am inspired and happy to have the chance to meet such great people, have talks and see a new place.

Inspiration: Dark summer essentials for a dark summer

I haven't done a moodboard for a while and this one is dedicated to the super fun summer. So why aren't there any sunglasses, straw hats or at least something with a pineapple print on it? Because there is no sun in Germany - as harsh as it sounds. Welcome to the darkest summer of my life - It seems that I missed out on it, that one single sunny day this year - probably because I was sitting in the library from Mai to August, writing on my bachelor thesis. Thats why I made a collage of stuff,  that I can still use during those colder days - a scarf is, how ridiculous it might sound, my company for the cold days (we had 13 degrees on Wednesday) - not too wrong this month. At least I´ve been searching through some more playful patterns, despite the monochrome and minimalistic character of each single piece - in this case, the confetti Bumbag won the game. Also, I am always in for monochrome timepieces, as you know. I found out that Oozoo has some way less pricey products online (40-50€) and looks way more individual than the typical Wristwatches. If you´re still thinking about a nice, timeless watch, go for it! The rest is linked below. BTW, if you have some tipps where to spend a nice end-of-summer holiday, tell me in the comments!

Outfit: &otherstories Slip Dress

This look is my happy color - all black everything is totally fine during summer, especially in that airy slip dress, I found at &otherstories. Unfortunately, its already full of pilling after only a few times of wearing. What happened to necessary things, such as quality? However, you might see the tiny key-piece of the look: I am finally okay with wearing chokers (only 2 years after calling them another trendy piece of accessory.) And must admit: Still now, after chokers have been around for a while, people give me the look. This one weird stare, that I usually get when I do something completely fierce. Like skipping a line, wearing a blouse buttoned down, or very dark lipstick during the daytime (so fierce, I know.) But the choker seems to have its own charm. Somewhere between the dusty 90´s memories of mine, there they are, hidden and forgotten on purpose. I like their comeback and couldn't care less that it looks basic. I am basic. At least in this outfit post - and shoutout to my boyfriend who was so patient to take the pictures during the rare moments of sunlight.

I barely wear that christmas gift - the comme des garçons striped shirt, but if I do, I look laid-back es hell. Because I am laid-back as hell. Look how I just hang with Alice on a Monday morning, taking pictures on a bridge, wearing mainly black. To be honest, that was the best start in a week ever - Alice is not only someone who knows what to do with the camera, she is also a cool friend. (Thank you for your time) - This is something I normally would wear on a sunday. The oversized everything is just fine if I do not plan to seduce my boyfriend (as if.) So there is not much to say about culottes, that I did not mention before, so I keep it like that and wish you a nice weekend!

I quit thinking about summer, since its raining or just cold - so I make the best out of it and collected some autumn pieces from the current summer sale all over Asos and Edited. I will definitely go for some Mom Jeans, (or Girlfriendjeans, however you want to call it) and embrace the nineties a bit more by adding some serious patent elements - at the end, its all about surviving the cold wet seasons - the so called german summer. Actually this is funny, because I am already about to look for some warmer places on this planet. Until then, this is my recommendation if you still need some basics but want to save on money:

The first time in a while that I´ll got some good old Storm-Pictures. She is literally one of the very few genius people who take a few shots and everything is fine, because she has the third eye for good moments - this shoot took us five Minutes, even less, if I didn't had to burst out laughing when reading other peoples face expressions. This outfit is btw my way to welcome summer back, only if for a day I wore off-shoulders again. And I saw the sun, which was a huge surprise since I am still here in Berlin and my tanned legs must be lying, I don't even know where they take the color from.

OUTFIT: Mom jeans and white blouse

After three years, I dare to wear those super trendy Mom-Jeans. Even my little sister was faster on that trend - even now I am not sure if I am wrong about them. Lose fit on my "negative bum" as my friends say looks kinda weird, but a good weird. Its like having a tote bag that looks absolutely fine but its empty as well, so you don't need to carry so much stuff with you, while still having a nice tote bag. Maybe thats a good description for my body. I paired them with a silk blouse that Storm once gave me in an act of kindness. I still feel like this is my favorite basic piece. To add more femininity to the whole look, I am wearing lace up ballerinas and a chain bag. It was, by the way, damn hot on that day and I felt like melting each second I moved around, so don't mind the stiff poses in that post, I try my best in autumn again.

Inspiration: Grey Bedroom

We are so close to finish our bedroom - the wall color is done, the boxes are nearly unpacked (after four months, surprise) and the Bed is beyond perfect. To give you a slight overview of the moodboard, I want to share my pinterest inspiration and the interior that goes together with that. For the slightly dark grey on the walls, I have chosen some lighter bedding to brighten it up. Additionally, I´ve collected my copper details in the bedroom. The Lamp and the side table from my former bedroom will stay and warm up the coldish grey tones. Overall, I am pretty happy with the results so far, I only miss some pictures on the walls and maybe another shelf for Books, but thats something we can manage. For me the Bedding is something that changes the most about the room (since the bedroom consists of 90% bed) I found some nice sheets on a budget at H&M Home, made of pure cotton in nice stone tones or Chambray - My favorite Grid Sheets are from Urban Outfitters but literally the worst buy ever. The quality is just very low and thats a bummer, since I wash them pretty hot. However, if the sheets change so much about the room so quickly, that I really enjoy changing them. Where do you get yours?

Travel: Postcards from Barcelona

Just a few Impressions that I nearly forgot. I always try to write posts that make sense to read (haha really?) But this is for me, Juule and everyone who was wondering if we did something besides hanging at the Museum. In fact, we had the longest walks, the most stupid jokes, more and longer walks and some ice-cream. Barcelona was my favorite city so far - even if I could say that about every trip with her, this one was special: We have chosen to travel at a stage of our lives, when we had more important stuff to do (I had my finals) and still, we were so relaxed, had the lowest expectations and the best experiences. I will definitely go back to Barca again, trying to offer you some food guide in the near future as well and maybe see a bit more than modern architecture. Enjoy the little photo diary!

Outfit: Bell sleeves and mom jeans

Pretty long sleeved and with a full length pair of jeans, I am stumbling into the transition Season - sadly the one between Summer and Autumn, which makes me a bit melancholic. I am currently off to spend the very last hot days in Budapest, and know that coming back to Berlin will mark the official end of the summer. This is also the very last month of my life that I can spend without worries, because I still have an insurance and am officially a student. More or less, I am growing up, just in time with the falling leaves. (Lol, I am such a romantic person) But seriously, can you spot all those leaves on the floor? Its officially Autumn, you can burry me now. I have spent the past weeks with getting rid of old stuff, finishing the flat for good and spending some massive quality time with friends, learning how to not use a skateboard and hanging at flea markets (as a seller). I know that Autumn will be the time to apply for adult jobs, figuring out what I really want from Live (currently: Stewardess) and also getting my own insurance. I do not look forward to it.
